A Tilly Thomas Lux Celestia crown for a Tulum elopement

I’m so excited to share the beautiful wedding of stunning bride Katy and her lovely husband Ben today. The couple decided to bring their wedding forward because they’d been separated because of Covid and planned it in around 8 weeks. Here is their story in Katy’s own words…

“I work over in the United States and Ben was in England and unable to travel to see me due to the travel ban. We were, however, both able to travel to Mexico and with Ben spending 14 days in the country could then return to the States with me as my husband!

We decided on Tulum (even though we had both never been!) because of the gorgeous laid-back aesthetic & stunning hotels and spaces. One of the most important things for me (apart from the outfit!) was the photographer- as my job is Styling Director for Nike, half of my life is spent on shoots and I know the importance of capturing the moment. And of course, as it was just going to be the two of us, I wanted to make sure we had incredible pictures to treasure and share with all of our loved ones who couldn’t be there. I reached out to Chris & Ruth on the off chance they might be available and in the country as I know it is one of the ones they have done shoots in before- it was meant to be, they had a change of plans and would be available on our selected day! I knew whatever we planned or did, these guys would make it look incredible.

Our wedding planner who helped pull all of the details together and help us source locations was Luisa at Weddings Riviera Maya. After being let down by another Wedding planner, I reached out to Luisa and she was just incredible! Having 18 years in the business over in Tulum, she absolutely knew all the best vendors and places to go and was there every step of the way.

We stayed at the Hotel Bardo in Tulum, again, we picked this one because of the aesthetic and potential for beautiful backdrops, as well as being a little further out of the hustle and bustle of the main beach strip in Tulum.

Ben traveled in from London and I flew in from Portland, we hadn’t seen each other for a couple of months due to COVID restrictions so it was such an exciting time just getting to see each other again, as well as have a wedding on top to look forward to!

The day was intentionally so laid back. Having chosen to elope, I really wanted to enjoy the fact it was just Ben and I and we could just make the most out of the day and have no stress. On the way to the ceremony, we managed to find time to facetime family and friends so they could see us in our outfits and wish us luck. Both are families were holding COVID friendly garden parties with their chosen 6!

The ceremony was held at a local Cenote (a naturally occurring sink hole) close to the hotel and the floral set up and bouquet was by Taller de Flores in Cancun. Having a traditional ceremony, rather than a spiritual, meant it was held by a judge and our only guest was an iguana that decided to turn up mid ceremony and try and eat my flowers!”

I’m so in love with these beautiful pictures by Chris & Ruth, not to mention Katy’s stunning dress. Katy completed her look with our Celestia headpiece and I’m so grateful she chose to wear Tilly Thomas Lux for her special day.

Huge congratulations Katy and Ben! Wishing you a long and happy marriage.

Love and sparkle,

Sally xxx
