Tilly Thomas Lux Real Brides: Art Deco Inspired Earrings For A Jenny Packham Beauty’s Romantic Summer Wedding

Brrrr I know I’m Northern but even I’m starting to feel the chill! I hope you’re wrapped up warm in snuggly knits with copious amounts of apple crumble. I’m particularly lucky that I have two personal radiators in the form of my giant fluffy cat and my very cuddly miniature Dachshund (he rocks a jumper too).

It’s an exciting time of year for more reasons than one; Christmas is coming and with it all manner of sparkling, glittering, festive loveliness and very very soon I’ll be launching my brand new 2017 collection, ‘Celestial Flight’. I just can’t wait to share it with you all - the beady eyed among you will have spotted a few star-strewn, wing-laden sneak peaks on my Instagram (I just couldn’t contain the sparkle!)

If you happened to read the candid Q&A piece I posted a little while ago, you’ll know that the thing I find most rewarding and special about my job (still in a tiny bit of a ‘pinch me’ phase that living my sparkly daydream is actually my job) is working with my beautiful, unique, incredible brides. So today I’m absolutely delighted to be sharing the very first in my brand new series of focus pieces celebrating the wonderful ladies who’ve followed me down the yellow-brick, swarvorski-crytsal-strewn road to bridal Oz…

Let me introduce you to Lucy (aka the brand new Mrs Stevens!) This absolute beauty wed her husband Nick on 27th August this year and I’m absolutely bursting with pride and excitement to share a little insight into her stunningly romantic wedding and the journey to creating her Tilly Thomas Lux bespoke earrings.

The Jenny Packham fangirls out there may recognise this lovely lady - she was recently featured on Instagram as Jenny Packham Bride of the Week in her gorgeous Hermia gown. I love the Midsummer Night’s Dream connotations of this dress; ethereal woodland mystery and lingering magic.

Lucy tied the knot at Elmore Court in Gloucestershire, which dates back to 1580, combining old-world grandeur with fabulous contemporary touches. I’ll hand over to Lucy to tell you a bit more about her big day inspiration and that divine dress…

“We wanted to add our own touches and complement the surroundings and earthy tones, wood and glass of the venue. A palette of soft neutral colours developed with our theme and a lot of that evolved from the flowers I had envisaged. A sort of romantic, whimsical, elegant feel, if that combination is possible.”

“My dress was Jenny Packham with lots of beads and sparkle. Did it take long to find? Yes. How many dresses did I try on? You don’t want to know. I love fashion and clothes, but I am very indecisive. I think part of the problem was that I liked a lot of very different dresses and would have worn a selection if I were given the option.

My main requirement was to feel relaxed and to be able to dance all night. I had tried a few of the Jenny Packham dresses on and didn’t quite want to go full on 1920s, so the Hermia was the perfect compromise. The beading was a slightly more modern design; it was comfortable, light, but made me feel incredibly glamorous.”

You look blooming amazing in it Lucy! After serious hours spent googling, I’m super happy to say that Lucy discovered us online and got in touch to commission a Tilly Thomas Lux creation to complete her bridal look.

“I wanted something to match my dress, which already had very intricate beading and detail so I was wary of going too over the top or too bling. In the end I opted for beautiful bespoke droplet earrings, slightly Art Deco, 20s style with a modern twist.”

“I initially contacted Sally and asked about lots of different items including hair accessories. I then had a little panic about how much I was spending on my ensemble and decided to have a rethink. But I just couldn't stop looking at the newly created website and all the wonderful Instagram pictures and just decided I was being silly and should go for it! I sent Sally some pictures of things I liked, of some of my nans’ costume jewellery and she created some beautiful options, all of which I could have picked.”

Nan’s are the ultimate style icons! So much of the inspiration for my brand, including its name, comes from memories of my lovely Grandma Thomas and her ever-gorgeous hair accessories. I was so touched to have this in common with Lucy when designing for her, it’s details like this that develop a real connection and emotional poignancy with what I create. I adore the instantly era-evoking style of the 20s inspired earrings we developed; both statement sparklers and subtly elegant and so in keeping with the beaded, shimmering detail of Lucy’s wedding dress.

“There were so many highlights of our wedding day, I know everyone says it, but it really was the best day of our lives and we just couldn’t have hoped for it to be any better. I think a couple of moments that stand out are when the vicar whispered to us ‘let me be the first to congratulate you on officially being husband and wife’ before announcing it to the congregation and secondly the exhilaration (and relief) of finishing our dance!”

It’s hearing about these special moments and intimate details that give my sparkly little heart all the feels. It truly fills me with joy that Tilly Thomas Lux is able to be a little part of a bride’s wedding day. I can’t thank you enough, Lucy, for sharing these beautiful thoughts and images (these wonderfully atmospheric stills were captured by photographer James Fear if you’re interested ladies) and I’m so honoured to celebrate your story in my very first foray into this series of TTL Real Bride features.
